Ever-lasting engagement rings
The recent economic downturn has prompted many couples to reassess their wedding plans and perhaps extend their engagement from perhaps a one-year engagement to a two-year one. A great deal of people doing this seem to be taking it in their stride and accepting it just as inevitable situation, that in tougher times one shouldn’t spend on what they cannot afford to pay for. As two-years can be a long time to wait, especially for a couple intent on walking down the aisle as quickly as possible, some couples are reversing traditional standards. Nowadays men don’t even have to select engagement rings for their beloved, many women are turning the tables around and proposing to their fiancées. Indeed, there is no longer any associated shame with women doing this, like there may have been in the past.

For men it gives them the guarantee the woman wants to marry with them, and saves them from a stressful experience of buying a ring that may not live up to their partners’ expectations. In addition, for women it gives them assurance. Especially if it’s going to be a two-year engagement, as it sends out a visible sign to others that their man is taken. Many people in these harder economic times will have to consider with due diligence if it will be detrimental to the relationship if the engagement is prolonged. For most couples it’s not a problem, and if anything, it gives them more time to start planning financially and investing in their future.
